About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians and cashiers in pharmacy operations. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. This position requires you to develop strong relationships with valuable customers and ensure a positive experience for all. Operationally, you will assist in the practice of pharmacy by entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and checking for potential drug interactions. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding quality improvement. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist with inventory management, and support the pharmacy department in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Your role may also involve assisting pharmacists in administering clinical services and coordinating with local healthcare providers to enhance growth opportunities for the pharmacy. To succeed in this position, you will need to earn and maintain your PTCB certification through the designated training program. You will also be expected to attend training sessions and acquire continuing education credits to stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy. Completing the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program can qualify you for up to eight college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in entering patient and drug information accurately and filling prescriptions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services and coordinating with healthcare providers.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties under supervision.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
