About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. This certification not only enhances your skills but also provides you with a nationally recognized credential that is portable and valuable in advancing your career in pharmacy. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction. Your role will involve operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow, all while adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, handle cash transactions, and support clinical services as needed. The position requires you to maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment and to develop good relationships with local healthcare providers. Continuous personal development is emphasized, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training and education. This apprenticeship program also qualifies for college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials in the healthcare field.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services as required.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Must be able to earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program.

Nice-to-haves

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
