About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to supporting your career growth through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and ensuring accurate data entry. If you are PTCB certified, you will also have the opportunity to coach other pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy systems. Your primary focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. You will assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including filling prescriptions, verifying medications, and reporting any prescription errors to the pharmacist. Additionally, you will handle cash register transactions, manage inventory, and support the pharmacy team in maintaining a clean and organized work environment. Continuous personal development is encouraged, and you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification while attending training sessions and acquiring continuing education credits. Through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you can also earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).
