As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharm Tech Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system, directly interacting with customers and helping them achieve better health outcomes. This apprenticeship program serves as a gateway to a fulfilling career in healthcare, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will gain essential skills and knowledge through a combination of coursework, hands-on training, and mentorship, preparing you for the responsibilities of a certified pharmacy technician. In your role, you will assist pharmacists in various tasks, including processing prescriptions, managing pharmacy systems, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You will also engage with customers, providing them with a distinctive and delightful experience. Your responsibilities will include entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining inventory, all while adhering to Walgreens' policies and procedures. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department and ensure it is stocked with adequate supplies.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist pharmacists in various pharmacy duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
