About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to investing in your career through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and assist with coaching pharmacy technicians and cashiers in their operations. Your commitment to delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience will be paramount, as you engage with customers, resolve their issues, and model best practices in customer service. You will also assist in operational tasks such as filling prescriptions, verifying medications, and ensuring compliance with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. This position is ideal for individuals who are either new to the pharmacy field or have prior experience as a Pharmacy Technician. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Develop strong relationships with valuable customers.
  • Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager.
  • Enter patient and drug information accurately into pharmacy systems.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Verify that medications are correct and check for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist customers in locating products in the OTC aisle.

Requirements

  • Less than high school education required.
  • No prior experience necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a pharmacy setting is a plus.
  • Customer service experience is beneficial.
