About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your ability to develop strong relationships with customers will be key to your success in this position. Operationally, you will assist in the pharmacy's daily functions, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist with inventory management, and support the pharmacy team in various clerical duties. Your role may also involve assisting in clinical services, such as collecting and labeling samples, and maintaining good relationships with local healthcare providers. Training and personal development are integral to this position. You will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. Completing the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program can also earn you college credit hours, further enhancing your educational qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples from patients.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Basic math skills to fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills for operating pharmacy systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
