About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your operational duties will involve entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, handle cash transactions, and support the pharmacy department in various clerical tasks. You will also have opportunities to participate in clinical services, coordinate with healthcare providers, and maintain a clean and organized pharmacy environment. Continuous training and personal development are integral to this position, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties in compliance with regulations.
• Basic math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting and measuring medications.
• Good computer skills for operating pharmacy systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
