About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to supporting your career growth through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and ensuring accurate information entry. If you are PTCB certified, you will also have the opportunity to coach other pharmacy technicians and cashiers in pharmacy operations. Your primary focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. You will assist in pharmacy operations by performing tasks assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including filling prescriptions, verifying medications, and maintaining workflow. It is essential to report any prescription errors immediately and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors. Additionally, you will handle cash register operations, assist customers in locating products, and manage telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's attention. Your role will also involve supporting inventory management activities and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. As part of your professional development, you will earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program and participate in ongoing education to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. Completing the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program qualifies you for eight college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). This program is designed to equip you with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel as a certified pharmacy technician.
