About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy systems. Your focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction. You will also assist in operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow, while adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Additionally, you will be involved in training and personal development, earning and maintaining your PTCB certification through the designated training program. This position offers a comprehensive learning experience, including the opportunity to earn college credit hours through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, which is recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). You will be expected to attend training sessions, complete required continuing education credits, and stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties under supervision.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
