About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your role will involve operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow, all while adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, handle cash transactions, and support the pharmacy team in clinical services. Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
• Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
• Assist in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and nurses.
• Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and is clean and orderly.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
