About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to investing in your career through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the ASHP and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in the pharmacy care industry. In your role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. This includes using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also engage with customers, providing assistance and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. Your responsibilities will extend to operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow efficiency. You will be expected to adhere strictly to Walgreens' policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing and report any prescription errors immediately. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, ensuring that the pharmacy is stocked with adequate supplies and maintaining a clean and orderly environment. Your role will also involve developing relationships with local healthcare providers and participating in clinical services as required. Continuous personal development is emphasized, as you will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and complete ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. Through the completion of the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you will also earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Verify that the medicine is correct and check for possible interactions.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
  • Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with local healthcare providers.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
