About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians and cashiers in pharmacy operations. Your focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. You will also assist in maintaining the pharmacy's operational workflow, ensuring accurate prescription filling, and managing inventory effectively. The position requires you to adhere strictly to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and report any prescription errors immediately. You will also be involved in clerical duties, such as processing manual claims for third-party prescription services and maintaining the pharmacy's cleanliness and organization. As part of your professional development, you will earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy practices. This apprenticeship program also qualifies you for college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
