About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. This position requires you to develop strong relationships with customers and ensure their needs are met effectively. Operationally, you will assist in the practice of pharmacy by entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and checking for potential drug interactions. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to the company's policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist with inventory management, and support the pharmacy department in maintaining a clean and orderly environment. You will also have opportunities to engage with the local medical community to enhance growth opportunities for the pharmacy. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. Completing the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program can also earn you college credit hours, further enhancing your educational qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department and ensure adequate supplies are stocked.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
