About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharm Tech Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing essential support to pharmacists and ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. The apprenticeship program is recognized by the ASHP and the Department of Labor, offering a unique opportunity to earn while you learn. You will be guided through the process of becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, which is a nationally recognized credential that will enhance your career prospects in the healthcare sector. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting pharmacists in various tasks, including processing prescriptions, managing patient information, and providing excellent customer service. You will engage with customers, helping them find the products and services they need while ensuring a positive experience. The pharmacy environment is dynamic and patient-centric, focusing on building strong relationships with customers and providing them with the support they need to lead healthier lives. Your daily responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You will also assist in inventory management, handle cash transactions, and support the pharmacy team in maintaining a clean and organized workspace. Continuous training and personal development are key components of this position, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy practices.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy department.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist pharmacists in various pharmacy duties in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
