About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. This position requires you to develop strong relationships with customers and ensure their needs are met effectively. Operationally, you will assist in the pharmacy's daily functions, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding quality improvement. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist customers in locating products, and manage telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's attention. Your role may also involve supporting inventory management activities and assisting in clinical services, such as collecting and labeling samples from patients. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. Completing the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program can also earn you college credit hours, further enhancing your educational qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
