About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice at Walgreens in Middlebury, Vermont, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric approach. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, while ensuring you maintain the high skill level required in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and coach other pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers if you are PTCB certified. Your primary focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. You will also assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining compliance with pharmacy regulations. The training and personal development opportunities provided through Walgreens will equip you with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in your role. You will earn and maintain your PTCB certification through the designated training program, and your experience in the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program will qualify you for college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Must be able to assist the pharmacist in the performance of pharmacy duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to engage with customers and provide excellent customer service.
  • Basic knowledge of pharmacy systems and operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
