As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharm Tech Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system, directly interacting with customers and helping them achieve better health outcomes. The Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Training Program is recognized by the ASHP and the Department of Labor, offering an “earn while you learn” apprenticeship that equips you with the skills needed to become a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. This program not only provides foundational knowledge but also advanced training to ensure you are well-prepared for a successful career in pharmacy. You will learn to navigate pharmacy systems, process prescriptions, and assist pharmacists in various duties, all while adhering to state and federal regulations. In this role, you will engage with customers, resolve their inquiries, and ensure a positive experience. You will also assist in operational tasks such as inventory management, prescription filling, and maintaining compliance with company policies. The position requires a commitment to continuous learning and development, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist immediately and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on the cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third-party prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department and ensure adequate supplies are stocked.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples from patients.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Basic computer skills to navigate pharmacy systems and perform clerical duties.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
