This apprenticeship will guide you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, ensuring you maintain the high standards required in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist pharmacists under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also engage with customers, providing assistance and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. Your ability to develop strong relationships with customers will be key to your success in this position. The role also involves operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will be responsible for adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and reporting any prescription errors immediately. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management and may help with clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples. Training and personal development are integral to this position, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and participate in ongoing education to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Pharmacy Department.
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist pharmacists in various pharmacy duties.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with customers.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in filling prescriptions.
  • Responsible and trustworthy in handling sensitive information and cash.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Good computer skills for operating pharmacy systems.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
