About the position

The Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship at Walgreens is designed to provide individuals with a comprehensive entry point into a career in healthcare. This role emphasizes patient interaction and relationship building, moving away from a purely transactional environment. The apprenticeship program is recognized by the ASHP and the Department of Labor, equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to become certified pharmacy technicians. The position involves assisting pharmacists in various pharmacy operations while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, ultimately contributing to a patient-centric pharmacy experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
• Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist with inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Pharmacy Department.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Prefer good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Knowledge of pharmacy operations and customer service best practices.
