About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems. Your focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction. You will also assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. The apprenticeship program also offers the opportunity to earn college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and nurses.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and is clean and orderly.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties under supervision.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
