About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to supporting your career growth through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the ASHP and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. This certification not only enhances your skills but also provides you with a nationally recognized credential that is portable and valuable in advancing your career in pharmacy. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and ensuring accurate data entry. If you are PTCB certified, you will also have the opportunity to coach other pharmacy technicians and cashiers in operating pharmacy systems and cash registers. Your primary focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. You will also assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. This includes reporting prescription errors, adhering to Good Faith Dispensing policies, and supporting the pharmacy team in various clerical duties. Additionally, you will have the chance to participate in clinical services, such as collecting and labeling patient samples, and building relationships with local healthcare providers to enhance growth opportunities for the pharmacy. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training and education to stay current with developments in healthcare and pharmacy.
