About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately leading to a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in all pharmacy operations, including reporting prescription errors and adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment, and support the pharmacist in clinical services. Your training will include earning and maintaining PTCB certification, attending required training sessions, and acquiring continuing education credits. Through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you will also earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), further enhancing your educational qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
