About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. Walgreens is committed to investing in your career through its "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program, which is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and helping you maintain the high skill level required in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. You will be responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and assist with coaching pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy systems. Your responsibilities will also include engaging customers and patients, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience. You will model and share customer service best practices with team members, ensuring that every interaction is distinctive and delightful. Additionally, you will assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will be accountable for registering sales on the cash register, handling cash, and assisting with inventory management activities. The role also involves maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment and developing relationships with the local medical community. As you progress, you will earn and maintain your PTCB certification, attend training sessions, and acquire continuing education credits, all while gaining valuable experience that qualifies for college credit hours as recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Verify that the medicine is correct and check for possible interactions.
  • Assist pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining workflow.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • PTCB Certification or willingness to obtain certification as a condition of promotion to senior technician.
  • Basic math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
