About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharm Tech Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing essential support to pharmacists and ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. The apprenticeship program is recognized by the ASHP and the Department of Labor, allowing you to earn while you learn, and guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. This certification is a nationally recognized credential that will enhance your career prospects in the pharmacy field. In this role, you will be responsible for assisting pharmacists in various tasks, including processing prescriptions, managing patient information, and providing excellent customer service. You will engage with customers, helping them find the products and services they need, and resolving any issues they may encounter. The pharmacy environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail, as you will be handling medications and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. You will also have the opportunity to participate in training programs that will equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in your role. This includes learning about pharmacy systems, inventory management, and customer service best practices. As you progress in your apprenticeship, you will gain valuable experience that will prepare you for a successful career as a certified pharmacy technician.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Pharmacy Department.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior work experience with Walgreens is preferred.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy operations and customer service best practices.
