About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your operational duties will involve assisting in the practice of pharmacy, ensuring accurate entry of patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing. Additionally, you will handle cash register operations, assist customers in locating products, and manage telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's attention. You will also support inventory management activities and may assist in administering clinical services as needed. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and attend training sessions to acquire continuing education credits. The Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program qualifies for college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
