As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately leading to a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also engage with customers, providing assistance and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. Your operational duties will involve entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy. You will be responsible for reporting any prescription errors and adhering to company policies regarding pharmacy operations. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, ensuring that the pharmacy is stocked with necessary supplies and maintaining a clean and orderly environment. You will have opportunities to develop relationships with local healthcare providers and participate in clinical services as needed. Continuous personal development is encouraged, with the expectation that you will earn and maintain PTCB certification and complete ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy practices. Through this apprenticeship, you can earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), further enhancing your educational qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require the personal attention of the pharmacist.
• Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
