In this role, you will assist pharmacists under direct supervision, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while performing various pharmacy duties. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also engage with customers, providing assistance and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. The position requires a commitment to customer service excellence, as you will be expected to model best practices and develop strong relationships with valued customers. Additionally, you will be involved in operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and managing inventory. You will report any prescription errors immediately and adhere to company policies regarding dispensing activities. The role also includes clerical duties, such as processing claims for third-party prescription services and maintaining the pharmacy's cleanliness and organization. As part of your personal development, you will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. This apprenticeship program not only prepares you for certification but also qualifies you for college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying correctness, and checking for interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist immediately and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and nurses.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy under supervision.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
