About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers if you are PTCB certified. Your primary focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers and patients, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction. You will also assist in operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. Reporting any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhering to the company's policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing is essential. Additionally, you will handle sales transactions, manage inventory, and support the pharmacy department in various clerical duties. The role may also involve assisting in clinical services, maintaining relationships with local healthcare providers, and ensuring the pharmacy department is well-stocked and orderly. Continuous training and personal development are key components of this position, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Basic math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
