About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharm Tech Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system, providing essential support to pharmacists and ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. The apprenticeship program is recognized by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and the Department of Labor, offering a structured pathway to becoming a certified pharmacy technician. You will receive comprehensive training that includes both foundational and advanced knowledge, as well as hands-on experience in a pharmacy setting. Your daily responsibilities will involve interacting with customers, assisting them with their healthcare needs, and building strong relationships to enhance their experience. You will be responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The role emphasizes a patient-centric approach, moving away from traditional transaction-based interactions to a more engaging and supportive environment. In addition to your operational duties, you will also participate in training and personal development opportunities, including earning and maintaining your Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification. Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems effectively.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment is preferred.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens is preferred.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Knowledge of store inventory control is preferred.
• PTCB certification is preferred.
