This apprenticeship will guide you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, ensuring you maintain the high standards required in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist pharmacists under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also engage with customers, providing assistance and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. The position requires you to model and share best practices in customer service, fostering strong relationships with customers and patients. Your operational duties will involve assisting in the practice of pharmacy, entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and managing inventory. You will be responsible for adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and reporting any prescription errors immediately. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions and assist with clerical duties as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager. The role also includes opportunities for personal development, as you will be expected to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying correctness, and checking for interactions.
• Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist immediately and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples from patients.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, including outreach to health groups and providers.
• Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, and orderly in condition and appearance.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy under supervision.
• Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
