As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately leading to a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your ability to develop strong relationships with customers will be key to ensuring their satisfaction and loyalty. Operationally, you will assist in the pharmacy's daily functions, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding dispensing activities. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist with inventory management, and support the pharmacy team in various clerical duties. Your role may also involve assisting in clinical services, such as collecting and labeling samples, and fostering relationships with local healthcare providers to enhance growth opportunities for the pharmacy. To succeed in this position, you will need to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training and education. The apprenticeship program offers valuable college credit hours, furthering your educational and professional development in the pharmacy field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Enter patient and drug information accurately into pharmacy systems.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked and orderly in condition and appearance.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
