About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. This certification not only enhances your skills but also provides you with a nationally recognized credential that can significantly advance your career in pharmacy. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. Your responsibilities will also include engaging with customers, resolving their issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience by modeling best practices in customer service. You will assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow under the guidance of the pharmacist. Additionally, you will be involved in inventory management, assisting with ordering and storing pharmaceuticals, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. You will also have opportunities to develop relationships with local healthcare providers and participate in clinical services as required. Continuous training and personal development are key components of this position, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in entering patient and drug information and filling prescriptions accurately.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist immediately and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment and ensure adequate supplies are stocked.
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties under supervision.
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with pharmacy systems.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification preferred.
