This apprenticeship will guide you in becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, ensuring you maintain the high level of skill required in the pharmacy care industry. In this role, you will assist pharmacists under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also engage with customers, providing assistance and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. Your role will involve operational tasks such as entering patient information, filling prescriptions, and managing inventory, all while adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Additionally, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment, assisting with clinical services, and developing relationships with local healthcare providers. The position offers a pathway to career advancement through ongoing training and education, including the opportunity to earn college credit hours through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program. This is an entry-level position with full-time or part-time shifts available, including weekends and nights, providing flexibility to fit your schedule.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment and ensure adequate supplies are stocked.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist pharmacists in various pharmacy department duties.
• Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems and cash registers.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
