About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. This position requires you to develop strong relationships with valuable customers and ensure that their needs are met effectively. Operationally, you will assist in the practice of pharmacy by entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and checking for potential drug interactions. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to the company's policies regarding quality improvement. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist customers in locating products, and manage telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's attention. Your role will also involve supporting inventory management activities and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. You will be expected to complete special assignments and tasks as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Staff Pharmacist. To ensure your professional development, you will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and attend training sessions as requested by your manager. The Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program qualifies for eight college credit hours, providing you with valuable educational recognition. This position is ideal for individuals who are new to the pharmacy field or those with prior experience, as Walgreens is dedicated to training you to utilize your skills in serving and caring for patients and customers effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy department duties.
  • Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems effectively.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
