About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately leading to a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring a positive experience. Your operational duties will involve entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow in collaboration with the pharmacy team. You will be expected to report any prescription errors immediately and adhere to the company's policies regarding quality improvement and good faith dispensing. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, handle cash transactions, and support the pharmacy in various clerical tasks. Your role may also extend to assisting pharmacists in administering clinical services and maintaining relationships with local healthcare providers. Continuous training and personal development are integral to this position, as you will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and complete ongoing education credits. Through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you will also earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), further enhancing your educational qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Verify that the medicine is correct and check for possible interactions.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
• Prefer good computer skills.
• Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
• Prefer PTCB certification.
