As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will receive comprehensive training that equips you with the foundational and advanced knowledge necessary to excel in the pharmacy care industry. In your role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. This includes using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your responsibilities will extend to operational tasks such as entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow efficiency. You will also assist in inventory management and may support clinical services as required. The training and personal development aspect of this position is significant, as you will be expected to earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program. This role not only offers a pathway to certification but also provides valuable experience that qualifies for college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE). Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Verify that the medicine is correct and check for possible interactions.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the Pharmacy Department.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
