The courses, learning activities, and resources provided to you in our pharmacy technician training program are designed to give you foundational and advanced knowledge, skills, and on-the-job experiences you need to prepare to become a certified pharmacy technician. In accordance with state and federal regulations, you will assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy. You will also assist the pharmacist in the performance of other Pharmacy Department duties in accordance with Company policies and procedures. You will be responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. If PTCB certified, you will assist with and coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cashiers in the operation of the pharmacy cash registers. You will model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience by engaging customers and patients, resolving customer issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience. You will also assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist, ensuring compliance with state, federal, and company policy. Your role will include performing duties assigned by the Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager, including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will report prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors. Additionally, you will be responsible for registering all related sales on the assigned cash register and handling telephone calls that do not require the personal attention of the pharmacist. You will assist in inventory management activities and may assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services. You will also assist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community. This position offers a unique opportunity for training and personal development, including earning and maintaining PTCB certification and acquiring continuing education credits. Through completion of the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you will qualify for eight college credit hours as recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
  • Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
