About the position

As a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice at Walgreens, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction. The position requires adherence to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct and involves various operational tasks such as filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will be expected to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training to stay updated on healthcare and pharmacy developments. The apprenticeship program also offers the opportunity to earn college credit hours, further enhancing your educational qualifications. Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist pharmacists in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples from patients.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community through outreach efforts.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and is clean and orderly.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Basic math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
  • Good computer skills for operating pharmacy systems and cash registers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
