About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. This position requires a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in all pharmacy operations, including reporting prescription errors and adhering to the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. Additionally, you will assist in inventory management, maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment, and support the pharmacist in administering clinical services. Your role will also involve developing relationships with local healthcare providers to enhance growth opportunities for the pharmacy. Continuous personal development is emphasized, as you will be expected to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training and education. Through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you can earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), further solidifying your qualifications in the healthcare field.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Perform duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling samples.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.
  • Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies and is clean and orderly.

Requirements

  • Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.
  • Prefer good computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
