About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. Your responsibilities will also include engaging with customers, resolving their issues, and ensuring a positive customer experience by modeling best practices in customer service. You will assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow under the guidance of the pharmacist. Additionally, you will be involved in inventory management activities, assist in clinical services, and help maintain good relationships with the local medical community. The position requires you to adhere strictly to company policies regarding prescription dispensing and quality improvement, ensuring that you contribute to a safe and efficient pharmacy environment. You will also be expected to complete training and continuing education to maintain your certification and stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Process manual claims for third-party program prescription services in a timely manner.
• Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services as required.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist in the practice of pharmacy under supervision.
• Basic computer skills for pharmacy systems operation.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
• Knowledge of store inventory control.
• PTCB certification.
