About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. This position places you at the forefront of customer interaction, allowing you to develop strong relationships with patients while providing essential pharmacy services. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician, a credential that is both nationally recognized and portable, enhancing your career advancement opportunities. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and assist with coaching pharmacy technicians and cashiers. Your focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction. You will also assist in operational tasks such as filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. Training and personal development are key components of this position. You will earn and maintain your PTCB certification through the designated training program, attend required training sessions, and acquire continuing education credits. The apprenticeship program also qualifies you for eight college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), further enhancing your educational credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
  • Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
  • Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Assist in inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.

Requirements

  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties.
  • Basic computer skills for operating pharmacy systems.
  • Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
  • PTCB certification.
