About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your ability to develop strong relationships with customers will be key to your success in this position. Additionally, you will assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including entering patient and drug information, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding Good Faith Dispensing. Your role will also involve managing inventory, assisting with clinical services, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. Continuous training and personal development are integral to this position, as you will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and complete ongoing education credits. Through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you will also earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE).

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist with inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Must complete the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program.
• Must earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program.
