In this role, you will assist pharmacists under direct supervision, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations while performing various pharmacy duties. You will be responsible for using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and coach other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. Your daily tasks will include engaging with customers, resolving their issues, and providing a delightful customer experience. You will also assist in the operational aspects of the pharmacy, including filling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. The position requires a commitment to ongoing training and personal development, as you will need to earn and maintain PTCB certification and complete continuing education credits. Through the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program, you will also earn college credit hours recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), further enhancing your qualifications in the healthcare field.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
• Assist with inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
• Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians and other healthcare providers.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist pharmacists in the performance of pharmacy duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Basic math skills to fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Good computer skills to operate pharmacy systems.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
