About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians and cashiers. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your ability to develop strong relationships with customers will be key to your success in this position. Operationally, you will assist in the practice of pharmacy by entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding quality improvement. Additionally, you will handle cash transactions, assist with inventory management, and support the pharmacy team in various clerical duties. Your role may also involve assisting in clinical services, such as collecting and labeling samples, and maintaining good relationships with local healthcare providers. To succeed in this position, you will need to earn and maintain your PTCB certification through the designated training program. You will also be expected to attend training sessions and acquire continuing education credits to stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy. Completing the Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program can qualify you for college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist with inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Assist in administering clinical services, including collecting and labeling blood/urine samples from patients.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy department.
• Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to assist the pharmacist in various pharmacy duties under supervision.
• Basic computer skills to operate pharmacy systems effectively.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens.
