About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a more patient-centric one. You will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the pharmacy care industry, ultimately earning a nationally recognized credential that enhances your career prospects. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. Your responsibilities will include using pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. You will also be responsible for delivering a distinctive customer experience by engaging with customers, resolving issues, and modeling best practices in customer service. Your ability to develop strong relationships with customers will be key to your success in this position. Operationally, you will assist in the practice of pharmacy by entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and ensuring compliance with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct. You will report any prescription errors to the pharmacist and adhere to company policies regarding quality improvement. Additionally, you will handle cash register transactions, assist customers in locating products, and manage telephone calls that do not require the pharmacist's attention. Your role will also involve inventory management activities, including ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals, and maintaining a clean and orderly pharmacy environment. To support your professional development, you will be required to earn and maintain PTCB certification and participate in ongoing training and education. The Walgreens pharmacy technician apprenticeship program qualifies for eight college credit hours, further enhancing your educational credentials. This position is ideal for individuals who are new to the pharmacy field or those with prior experience, as Walgreens provides comprehensive training to help you succeed in your role.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Model and share customer service best practices with team members.
• Assist in filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs.
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
• Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering and unpacking pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy environment.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Must be able to earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program.

• Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
