About the position

As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in transforming the pharmacy experience from a transaction-based environment to a patient-centric one. This apprenticeship program serves as an entry point into the healthcare field, guiding you towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician. This certification not only enhances your skills but also provides you with a nationally recognized credential that is portable and valuable in advancing your career in pharmacy. In this role, you will assist the pharmacist under direct supervision, performing various pharmacy department duties in compliance with company policies and state and federal regulations. You will be responsible for utilizing pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, processing prescriptions, and coaching other pharmacy technicians if you are PTCB certified. Your focus will be on delivering a distinctive and delightful customer experience, engaging with customers, resolving issues, and ensuring satisfaction with pharmacy services. Your operational responsibilities will include assisting in the practice of pharmacy, entering patient and drug information accurately, filling prescriptions, and maintaining workflow. You will also be tasked with handling cash transactions, managing inventory, and supporting the pharmacy department in various clerical duties. Additionally, you may assist in clinical services, such as collecting and labeling samples, and in outreach efforts to build relationships with local healthcare providers. Continuous training and personal development are integral to this position, as you will be expected to earn and maintain your PTCB certification and stay updated on the latest developments in healthcare and pharmacy.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Assist in scheduling and maintaining workflow in the pharmacy.
• Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
• Assist in inventory management activities, such as ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing shipments of pharmaceuticals.
• Assist the pharmacist in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients.
• Develop and maintain good relationships with local medical community, including physicians and healthcare providers.

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Ability to earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state required certification/registration.
• Good math skills for accurately filling prescriptions, including counting, measuring, and weighing medications.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of store inventory control.

Nice-to-haves

• Six months of experience in a retail environment is preferred.
• Prior work experience with Walgreens is preferred.
• Knowledge of store inventory control is preferred.
• PTCB certification is preferred.
