About the position

We are searching for a Registered Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Texas Children's Hospital. This position is crucial in assisting the pharmacist with various tasks related to the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications. The role requires a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner. The technician will be responsible for dispensing medications in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for patients ranging from infants to adults. Additionally, the technician will assist in the procurement, record keeping, storage, and distribution of all controlled substances, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. In this full-time position, the Registered Pharmacy Technician will work evening shifts from 11 AM to 11:30 PM, with variable 8-hour shifts and potential weekend work. The technician will process prescriptions and medication orders, ensuring proper distribution and delivery of pharmaceutical and supply shipments. It is essential to maintain established departmental time-frame standards for medication delivery. The technician will also complete and document daily and monthly activity checklists, which include checking for expired drugs, cleaning assignments, and ordering necessary supplies and forms. Communication is key in this role; the technician will be expected to check all available means of communication, including email and mailbox, every shift. Daily filing of medication orders and stop orders is also a critical responsibility. The technician will collaborate with Materials and Logistics to maintain adequate stock levels of medications and supplies, and assist in implementing new formulations or repackaged products. Regular inspections of pharmacy areas will be performed to ensure compliance with drug accountability logs and preparation for scheduled patient study visits. As part of our commitment to workplace safety, all successful candidates will undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Processes prescriptions/medication orders and prepares medication
  • Ensures proper distribution/delivery of pharmaceutical and supply shipments
  • Ensures the doses are delivered within established departmental time-frame standards
  • Completes and documents daily and monthly activity checklists including expired drug checking, cleaning assignments, and ordering supplies and forms
  • Checks all available means of communication including e-mail, and mailbox every shift
  • Completes all daily filing, including medication orders and stop orders
  • Works with Materials and Logistics to maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies
  • Assists in the implementation of new formulations for manufactured products, new repackaged products, or any product deletions including updating the Master Formulation Book in the pharmacy areas, distributing, or pulling stock, and maintaining the M&R computer program
  • Performs weekly inspections of pharmacy areas to ensure adequate supply of drug accountability logs and of study drugs and in preparation of scheduled patient study visits

Requirements

  • RPHT-TX - Registered Pharmacy Technician from the State Board of Pharmacy required
  • PHAR INT - Pharmacy Intern
  • CPHT certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board preferred
  • 2 years pharmacy technician experience preferred
  • 40 hours of training in compounding sterile products accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education or the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists preferred
