About the position

The Pharmacy Technician Coordinator - Informatics/Automation position at the Veterans Affairs William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and Clinics is responsible for overseeing the informatics and automation aspects of pharmacy services. This role focuses on both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services, ensuring the effective operation of automated dispensing equipment and pharmacy computer systems. The coordinator provides leadership in maintaining these systems, troubleshooting issues, and training team members to enhance service delivery to Veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to Veterans and team members.
  • Coordinate the technical aspects of pharmacy drug distribution activities to ensure alignment with standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure that automated dispensing data is archived within established guidelines.
  • Resolve problems and complaints regarding pharmacy dispensing automation and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Train or arrange training for team members in team building and task accomplishment.
  • Oversee user files of all automated dispensing systems and pharmacy computer systems/software.
  • Manage pharmacy computer systems/software and automation equipment in accordance with VA Pharmacy procurement and formulary.
  • Proactively identify and address informatics/automation needs and issues.
  • Discuss assignments, projects, and program issues with the team.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Basic education or experience requirements as per VA standards.
  • Certification from Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA) is required for GS-09 level.
  • Expert knowledge in informatics/automation within pharmacy services.
  • Skill in analyzing data for performance improvement projects and statistical reports.
  • Ability to maintain special accreditations and prepare for national reviews/inspections.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in pharmacy services.
  • Knowledge of VA Pharmacy procurement and formulary management.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
