About the position

The Pharmacy Technician (Procurement/Inventory) at the GS-9 level will serve as a lead technician responsible for overseeing the procurement and inventory management of prescription and nonprescription medications and supplies within the Pharmacy Service at the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System. This role involves independent purchasing responsibilities, guidance to lower-level staff, and ensuring compliance with various regulations and policies to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the oversight of all prescription and nonprescription medication and supply purchasing and inventory.
  • Initiate pharmaceutical and supply orders and ensure proper receipt of shipments.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to lower-level procurement staff.
  • Analyze and reassess priorities to ensure workload demands are met efficiently.
  • Evaluate pharmacy activities to assist managers in achieving goals and objectives.
  • Identify areas of duplication in efforts and develop solutions to streamline processes.
  • Report potential and actual medication errors and encourage reporting among staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and service process assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures regarding procurement and inventory management.
  • Maintain oversight on the security of pharmacy inventory and storage areas.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Active national certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or ExCPT).
  • At least 1 year of experience equivalent to GS-08 level in pharmacy operations.
  • Expert knowledge in pharmacy procurement and inventory management.
  • Skill in analyzing data for performance improvement projects.
  • Ability to maintain special accreditations and prepare for national reviews/inspections.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical and supply inventory requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in pharmacy operations.
  • Familiarity with federal regulations regarding pharmacy procurement and inventory management.
