About the position

The Pharmacy Technician, Specialty role is designed for a candidate who will work collaboratively with outpatient clinic staff, including providers, nurses, and office support staff, as well as directly with patients. The primary goal of this position is to enhance the patient experience by facilitating access to specialty pharmacy and chronic disease state medications. The role encompasses a variety of disease states, including but not limited to Heart Failure, HIV, Hepatitis C, Oncology (both solid tumors and hematologic cancers), and Neurology (such as multiple sclerosis, migraines, and pain management). In this position, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for performing prior authorizations, securing financial assistance, and managing other necessary enrollments to ensure that patients can access their medications without barriers. The technician will also adjudicate and fill prescriptions while adhering to operational policies, procedures, and practice expectations. The role requires the technician to assist in reporting and tracking patients, support normal specialty patient processes, and be flexible in taking on additional functions as needed. As the program grows, the technician may be asked to incorporate new duties and cover for other specialty pharmacy technicians based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Performs prior authorizations, financial assistance, or other necessary enrollments to increase medication access for patients.
  • Adjudicates and fills prescriptions.
  • Maintains services in line with operational policies and procedures, workflows, and practice expectations.
  • Helps with reporting and tracking of patients, assisting in normal specialty patient processes, and other functions when needed.
  • May be asked to incorporate new duties due to program growth.
  • May be asked to cover duties of other specialty pharmacy technicians based on need.

Requirements

  • Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
  • At least two years previous pharmacy experience required.
  • Ability to work Full Time.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record, Rx30 pharmacy system, and Asembia patient therapy manager.
  • Certification as a pharmacy technician through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
  • Insurance and benefits investigation experience preferred.
